Bucthar Tabuni: Polisi Indonesia arrested West Papua Activists is proof Indonesia shackles freedom of expression rights of West Papua people

Bucthar Tabuni, chairman of the West Papua National Parliament spoke about the arrest of activists West Papua National Committee (KNPB), Bucthar Tabuni said KNPB on October`13, 2014  do peaceful demonstrations in 9 regions in West Papua (Jayapura, Merauke, Timika, Kaimana, Fakfak, Manokwari, Yahokimo, Nabire and Biak menutut the Indonesian government to release two French journalists who have coverage and detained in West Papua.

KNPB has sent a letter of notification of their action plan to the police, but the police have sent a letter to the KNPB to declare reject and do not give permission to KNPB to conduct peaceful demonstrations. Although Police banned but the commitment remains KNPB demonstrations were peaceful.

KNPB attitude is evident on October 13  KNPB at 9 regions in peaceful demonstrations. Police moved quickly to block meeting points and make threats of intimidation to the mass demonstrations.

Police disperse peaceful demonstrations and arrested 40 activists KNPB in  Merauke  and 16 activist KNPB in Jayapura, bringing the total number arrested KNPB ativist is 56 people.

Further Buchtar said West Papua National Committee (KNPB) is a container that is shaped by the people of West Papua as a medium of popular struggle in the fight for the self-determination rights  peacefully  and make Referensum a path for the middle seats the West Papuan issue in a fair and dignified.

On this basis KNPB in the last 6 years is to mobilized people to express their political rights openly and peacefully to be known by the Indonesian government and the international community.

But Indonesian military and police respond to peaceful protest KNPB was shot dead by the way, capture and jailed KNPB activists.

History records that the people of West Papua's list of victims over the long practice of the State of Indonesia as a country where the invaders for West Papua fetter their freedom of expression rights.

50 years more the people of West Papua's struggle for self-determination of their rights in a peaceful and dignified, but the only people experiencing mistreatment. The people of West Papua treated inhumanely, arrested, detained and prosecuted even gunned down massively by using didesin laws and authorities cited according to the wishes of the State. The people of West Papua engineering worn the same charges of committing criminal offenses subversive for voicing West Papua people rights.

This is evidenced by the occupation of the State of Indonesia over West Papua region which does not respect the people's right to self-determination, whereas the people of West Papua peacefully assert their rights and dignity. This is evidence of the State of Indonesia as colonizers for West Papua.

Freedom of speech and expression is the right of every person and this rights is guaranteed in international treaties on civil rights and politics. However, these rights do not apply to West Papua people.

The purpose of peaceful demonstrations on  Ocotber 13 2014, KNPB in 9 regions in West Papua is "called Indonesian government frees 2 jurnalists detained and will stand trial in West Papua." "Called  Indonesia to open access international journalists to West Papua and the UN human rights workers to West Papua, "he said.
